多年生草本。根状茎通常粗短；茎、枝、叶两面或背面及总苞片背面通常被蛛丝状绢 质柔毛、绒毛或绵毛。基生叶多成莲座状排列，中部叶二回或一至二回羽状全裂，每侧裂 片3-6枚。头状花序直径3.5-10毫米，具梗或无梗，在茎上排成狭而长的圆锥花序。
本系我国有4种，1变种。
